Guilty Pleasure: Spicy Egg Instant Noodle

There’s always that day where you really just don’t care and you just want to eat a great unhealthy food. Well at least, I do have that “special” day where I don’t think about being healthy. Just a little of bad preservative, some synthetic seasonings, and only God knows what else.

For me, today is that day. Yeah, I begin my Monday by being nasty. hihi…

This meal contains 3 of my favorites. Unhealthy fried instant noodle (very well-known here), garlic insanely “spicy dip/ sauce” (we call it “sambal” here in Indonesia) and scramble egg with the caramelized onion.

I made the spicy dip/ sauce using mortar and pestle. Most of the Javanese people will prefer to use it every time to make the sambal instead of using any electronic equipment. This is the mortar and pestle that I used today:

So. Let’s start with the instant noodle first. Make sure you use the fried noodles without any distinct flavors (like rendang or Roa or any other).  Treat it as mentioned at the back of the package. Then when it’s done, just leave it on the plate.

While you’re boiling the noodle (before mixing it with the seasonings), you need to prepare the spicy garlic sauce/ dip.

INGREDIENTS for Spicy Garlic Sauce/ Dip (Sambal):

  • 1 garlic clove
  • 15 fresh cayenne peppers (or any spicy pepper with thin skin)
  • Sea salt (just a little)
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Just put everything and mixed it in the mortar using the pestle or if you don’t have it with you, use food blender/ grinder.
  2. Heat up the oil in a small pan (until you can see the smoke), then pour it over the sauce.

When the sambal’s done, then just mix it with the instant fried noodle. Next, you just need to make the scrambled egg with caramelized onion.

INGREDIENTS for Scramble Egg with Caramelized Onion:

  • 2 big eggs (you can cut it down to 1, of course. I just LOVE eggs)
  • 1 very small yellow onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 4 tbsp fresh milk
  • White pepper
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Heat up the coconut oil
  2. Add the sliced onion, when it begins to be transparent, add the garlic
  3. Saute it until caramelized.
  4. Then pour the egg, fresh milk and white pepper mix and scramble it.

When you’re done with the eggs, just mixed them with the already very spicy instant noodle. It’ll take you just 10 minutes. A HUGE guilty feeling and at the same time, PLEASURE. *wink*

PS: Please don’t do this every day. As guilty pleasure should just be around max once in 2 weeks.
